MESSY BEAUTIFUL LITTLE PEOPLE
What makes your family messy & Beautiful?!
I am a storyteller, mother and lover of whimsy from Northampton, Massachusetts.
I am forever humbled by parenting, it's awesome beauty & how hard and messy it is. That is where the idea for Messy, Beautiful Little People came to be, in honor of our "Little People," who capable of immensely deep thought, awesome delight and brilliant ideas.
My daughter Hadley is two and I want to live in her wild, imaginative world and share it! Then, hold those photos for a lifetime until she is having her own sweet babes and can look back at pictures of us and know how very much I will always love her.
In order to authentically preserve childhood, the process is more important than the outcome. I want to re-imagine childhood photography altogether...
is your story & your love
I've established the following guiding principles to help create curiosity and delight in my work:
- Stay True to Your Child... Your children get to be who they are, not who we want them to be and sometimes, that means super serious or silly! Some of my favorites of my own Hadley Bear are those where she is moving or not even looking, yet her personality abounds!
- Organic... There is a warming up process for everyone at the beginning of every shoot. You're not wasting my time and I've moved away from strict time-limits in general; Kids do things in their own time. Snack break? Breast-feeding/Bottle? Excellent ideas!
- Come as you are... you, your house, your kids. Otherwise, you'll risk missing out on these youth-filled days! The clothes you own will look natural. No one will see your manicure. The way you do your own hair is beautiful. Your kids want to remember the you they love right now!
- Have Fun... Anything we want kids to do, they simply won't. Having fun means letting go of the perfect and embracing the beautiful mess. Kids need your permission to get dirty and explore. We'll take a lot of pics that we won't use, but that's ok! Say it with me "It's ok." Messy clothes, "It's ok." Sucking thumb, "It's ok." Eating grass... "Still ok." Once we settle in, the thumb goes away, the smile comes out and there are rainbows. Words like "stop" and "don't" create a slippery slope where family-photo-sessions go to die (within safe parameters of course!).
Below, I list what sessions I currently offer. You'll notice I do not offer everything. I want to put all my time and love into you and yours and the sessions below allow me to do that!
